Feliks Edmundovitj Dzerzjinskij

"Iron Felix" the founder of Tjekan 1917.
Tjeka, Russian secret police, is an abbreviation of (Vserossijskaja) tjrezvytjajnaja komissija
"Allryska extraordinary Commission". Felix Edmundovich Dzerzhinsky founded the Tjekan, finally
become the GPU, later the KGB (now FSB).

Spetsnaz was the KGB's military part or used by the KGB as an active part.
The toughest of all Spetsnaz called the first group or the English Alpha Team.
ALPHA TEAM was used, among other things, assassination, sabotage and kidnapping

  KGB ALPHA TEAM
The toughest military unit that has existed in the former Soviet KGB was Alpha team.
The soldiers of this unit had 12 years of education. First, they had 2 years of education
as paratroopers, then 10 years of further education. The soldiers in Alpha team
were experts in all forms of martial arts, weapons experts, explosives experts, etc.
This unit developed a particularly effective in close combat
Their headquarters is located in the city of Ryazan about 30 mil south of Moscow.

However, you should take these figures with a pinch of salt as the GRU had its own Spetsnaz and felt that they
were the toughest unit in what we call the former Soviet Union

Small Gold Medal of the "Exhibition of Achievements of the National Economy in Moscow", circa 1950s-1960s.

26.6 mm diameter (including loop). Gilded brass. Screw back suspension device. Purple ribbon. Center features one of the monumental statues on the exhibition grounds. "For success..." inscription on reverse.

Originally founded in Moscow in the late 1930s as the All-Union Agricultural Exhibition (VSKhV) to be a year-round celebration of the achievements of the USSR, the huge, world fair-like, complex changed its name in 1956 to Exhibition of Achievements of the National Economy when it was decided that its name needed to reflect the broader nature of the exhibits and competitions being held there.

Several judged competitions were held on the grounds virtually every week of the year and these medals were given to the winners. The exhibition area still exists today in all of its socialist glory although many areas are now occupied by small retail shops.

Officer Qualification Badges

These badges were awarded to officers based on their proficiency, skill, and conduct. From what
I have been told, the first two badges (class 3 and 2) were relatively easy to obtain, but the first
class and master badges were much harder to earn as the requirements became more difficult.

These badges came from a variety of factories in the Soviet Union and because of this
standardization was a problem. These badges are made of brass and enamel. The tank in the
center is painted (poorly on some examples).

Brass and enamels.

Paratrooper Badges

These badges were given to soldiers (usually of the airborne forces) based on the number of successful jumps they have completed. There are many different variations of this badge representing a different number of jumps made by the individual whom they are awarded to. After 10 jumps the badges change from normal paratrooper type to the excellent paratrooper type. At 100 or more jumps the badge changes to Paratrooper-Instructor. All of these badges are screwback type.
